2. Project Information

The second annual Tenley Tiger Run, sponsored by the Wilson PTSO & Track Boosters, will take place

on Saturday, April 9, 2016, beginning at 9 am. The race begins and ends near the Chesapeake St.

entrance of Wilson High School, and follows a course through Ft. Reno and neighborhoods in ANC 3E.

Along with promoting healthy activity and community bonding, the event serves as a fundraiser for the

Wilson running program. The Tenley Tiger Run is organized by the Track Boosters along with the help

and support of the student athletes. Last year, the event attracted 380-plus runners, including Wilson

students and teachers, neighborhood residents of all ages, and runners from across the District. This

year, the goal is to grow to at least 500 participants. The overall budget of $18,300 in expenses is based

on last year’s expenses, plus new costs to be incurred from the required use of emergency medical

services, and from increased participation. The anticipated revenue of $28,000 would enable us to cover

the event costs and net approximately $10,000 in funding that would benefit the Wilson High cross

country and track and field teams for school year 2016-2017.

We request a grant from ANC 3E in the amount of $2,000. Specifically, the grant would be used for the

expense of the race timing company (which is budgeted at $2,000 but may be less, since it is based on

the actual number of race participants) and the bids (approximately $200, again based on the number of

race participants).

The championship Wilson High School running program includes six teams – boys and girls cross

country, indoor track and field, and outdoor track and field – with more than 100 student athletes. The

Wilson student athletes all participate in the race and serve as volunteers in organizing and putting on

the event.

The event’s goals are:

– To reach many people of different fitness levels and bring them out to share the joy of completing a

goal with yourself, with your friends, with your family, and with your community;

– With a run around historic Ft. Reno, to bring together the broad Wilson community of near neighbors,

wider school boundary residents, and the city-wide Wilson community of current students, faculty,

families and alumnae;

– To establish a single, annual fundraising event to support the three season running program and teams

at Wilson.

Proceeds from the event will support the Wilson running program goal of continuing to broadly include

many athletes offering opportunities for travel to out-of-the area regional meets (meet fees,

transportation, lodging, food), specialty coaching clinics, and new equipment and uniforms.

A complete budget for the project is attached. Wilson PTSO Tax-Exempt Certificate:
