Resolution Regarding the Renewable Energy Act of 2012

Whereas, the DC City Council will soon consider legislation called the Renewable Energy Act of 2012, and

Whereas, many residents of the District of Columbia currently do not have access to purchase locally sourced solar generated electricity because among other reasons they are renters, live in properties that do not receive adequate sunlight or are tenants of multi-unit buildings, and

Whereas, under current DC law a local owner of a solar power array may only direct his or her electricity to a single electric meter, and

Whereas, this legislation would enable other local consumers of electricity to purchase locally sourced solar electricity, and

Whereas, this legislation as currently proposed would not cost DC Taxpayers , rate payers or residents more than allowed under current regulations, and

Whereas, California, Colorado and Delaware have already passed similar legislation to enable community solar arrangements.

Now therefore be it resolved, ANC 3E urges the DC City Council to pass the Renewable Energy Act of 2012.

ANC 3E approved this resolution at its meeting on June 19, 2012, which was properly noticed and at which a quorum was present.  The resolution was approved by a vote of 4-0-0.  Commissioners Jonathan Bender, Matthew Frumin, Tom Quinn and Beverly Sklover were present.
