PSA 202 Crime Trends:
Crimes reported in June 2024 were similar to May 2024 and June 2023. Of note, Total Violent Crimes, Total Property Crimes, and Total Crimes per month so far this year is lower than the average number of crimes per month in 2023 (56%, 33% and 34% decreases respectively) and is 46% lower than the average monthly number of total crimes since January 2015.
Crime Details by Category:
Burglary (1 Total):
- Friday, June 21 at 8:00 AM; 4700 block of Brandywine St NW; CCN 24096195. The victims returned home and realized that their home was burglarized, and their vehicle was stolen from the location. The suspect gained entry through a kitchen window. The vehicle was later recovered and returned to the victims.
- Wednesday, June 26 at 3:30 PM; 3800 block of Gramercy St NW; CCN 24097983. A contractor working at the building stated he returned to the location at 7 AM on June 27 and found the doors wide open. Responding officers found the locks destroyed and pry marks on the door and frame. The only items taken were the security cameras.
Motor Vehicle Theft (1 Total):
- Thursday, May 16 at 11:00 AM; 3700 block of Yuma St NW; CCN 24085405. The victim was involved in an accident in mid-March and parked the vehicle before responding to the hospital. The victim called a tow truck to remove the vehicle, however, the truck reported that the vehicle was not at the location. After a search for the vehicle, it was caught by the License Plate Reader system (LPR) being driven around in the Fifth District. The vehicle has not been recovered.
- Monday, June 24 at 10:00 PM; 4600 block of Chesapeake St, NW; CCN 24096743. The victim parked their vehicle in front of their house and purposely left the keys in the center console. When the victim returned the next morning, the vehicle was gone. The vehicle is equipped with GPS tracking, and it was recovered in the 2400 block of Ontario St. NW.
