Violent crimes were up 150% in January over the historical monthly average and arrests were made in at least two of those 5 robberies. Property crimes were down 39% over the historical monthly average.
Crime Details by Category:
Robbery (5 Total)
- Thursday, January 7, 10:00 PM; 4900 block of Wisconsin Ave, NW; CCN 21003303. The suspect entered Pizza Boli’s, pointed a gun at an employee and demanded money from the cash register.
- Saturday, January 9, 6:00 PM; 4210 block of Albemarle St, NW; CCN 21004181. The complainant and three witnesses were walking home when a suspect approached the victim and asked to use his cell phone. The victim initially did not comply, so the suspect displayed a handgun at his waistband. The victim threw his phone on the ground and ran away with the 3 witnesses. The suspect fled in an unknown direction.
- Tuesday, January 12, 12:02 AM; 4700 block of Alton Pl, NW; CCN 21005122. Three suspects exited a sedan and approached the victim’s vehicle. One of the suspects pointed a black handgun at the victim and demanded their vehicle. The suspect then fled. This was the second of three-armed carjackings in the area that night. Shortly after the third (see next bullet point) this stolen vehicle was spotted driving in the Fifth District. The vehicle was stopped, and two suspects were arrested. Two more suspects are at large.
- Tuesday, January 12, 12:04 AM; 4300 block of Alton Pl, NW; CCN 21005116. Three suspects exited a sedan and approached the victim’s vehicle. One of the suspects pointed a black handgun at the victim and demanded their vehicle. The suspect then fled. This was the third of three-armed carjackings in the area that night. Shortly after this vehicle was stolen, one of the other stolen vehicles was spotted driving in the Fifth District and two suspects were arrested. Two more suspects are at large.
- Sunday, January 17, 5:32 AM; 4300 block of Wisconsin Ave, NW; CCN 21007477. The suspect entered an establishment, brandished a handgun, and took property from the employee and the establishment. The suspect then fled the scene.
Burglary (1 Total)
- Friday, January 15, 3:25 AM; 4400 block of Brandywine St, NW; CCN 21006497. An unknown suspect forced entry into the location by smashing a window. Once inside the suspect stole US currency. A resident confronted the suspect, and the suspect fled the location.
Motor Vehicle Theft (1 Total)
- Wednesday, January 27, 11:31 AM; 3806 block Huntington St, NW; CCN 21012069. The vehicle was stolen after being parked in an open garage with the keys in it.
