PSA 202 Crime Trends:

Crimes reported in April 2023 were significantly higher than in both March 2023 and April 2022 due to increases in thefts from autos and thefts other. The monthly average crime for 2023 is higher than 2022 monthly averages (32.50 vs 27.25) and lower than then historical monthly average from January 2015 through April 2023 (32.50 vs 40.91).

Crime Details by Category:

Robbery (1 Total)

  • Friday April 7 at 11:14 AM; 4200 block of Jenifer St, NW; CCN 23053875. The suspect approached the complainant from behind as he was gathering items from the trunk of his vehicle. The suspect brandished a firearm and demanded the keys to the vehicle and the complainant’s cell phone. The suspect fled in the vehicle northbound on 42nd St. The case is still open.

Burglary (1 Total)

  • Between Thursday March 23 at 9:30 AM and Friday April 7 at 3:00 PM; 4400 block of Albemarle St, NW; CCN 23056273. The complainant reported that several pieces of jewelry were stolen from a bedroom closet. The case is still open, and the detectives are reviewing video footage from inside the home.

Motor Vehicle Theft (2 Total)

  • Saturday, April 8, 6:21 PM; 4400 block of Brandywine St, NW; CCN 23054662. The complainant reported that they parked their car and went for a walk with their spouse. When they returned they noticed the car had been broken into (glass was on the ground) and the vehicle was missing. The next day MPD officers noticed three female juveniles by the car in NE DC. The juveniles took off running and one was caught. 
  • Tuesday, April 4, 11:16 PM; 4100 block of Wisconsin Ave, NW; CCN 23052320.The complainant reported that he left his vehicle running, with the doors unlocked and keys inside the ignition. Five minutes later, the complainant noticed his vehicle was stolen by an unknown suspect. The complainant was able to track his vehicle and it was recovered it at 11th and K Streets, NW.
