Crimes reported in August 2023 were 22% lower than in July 2023 and 65% higher than in August 2022. The Monthly average of Property Crimes is 23% higher in 2023 than in 2022. The Total monthly average crime for 2023 is 19% higher than 2022 monthly averages (32.50 vs 27.25) and 20% lower than then historical monthly average from January 2015 through May 2023 (32.50 vs 40.59).

Burglary (1 Total)
- Wednesday, August 23 between 8:45 AM and 9:00 PM; 39200 block of Van Ness St, NW; CCN 23139362. An unknown individual entered the residence in an unknown manner. Taken from the property was a spare vehicle key which was in the master bedroom which was used to drive off with a 2021 white Honda Accord. Possible entry was made through a side door – the owner was unsure if the door was locked but it was locked when MPD was on scene.
Motor Vehicle Theft (4 Total)
- Saturday, August 5 at 1:00 PM; 4200 block of 40th St, NW; CCN 23128252. The complainant reported that their vehicle was stolen and the GPS on the vehicle showed it was located on the 1400 block of Chapin St NW. The vehicle was recovered by officers in 3D.
- Monday, August 7 at 5:00 PM; 3806 block of Huntington St, NW; CCN 23129318. The complainant stated their scooter was stolen from in front of their home. On 08-29-2023 the scooter was recovered in the rear of 4127 Harrison street NW.
- Thursday, August 10 at 6:00 PM; 4400 block of Fessenden St, NW; CCN 23131043. The complainant reported they left the he was vehicle outside of their home with the vehicle keys inside the of it and when they came out, they saw the suspect driving the listed vehicle without his permission. The vehicle was later recovered on the 1500 block of Foxhall Road NW.
- Friday, August 25 at 3:20 AM; 3700 block of Albemarle St NW; CCN 23139789. The complainant reported they parked the vehicle on the driveway and upon return, the vehicle was gone. The key fob and registration are inside the vehicle.
