Whereas the Friendship Heights Task Force, at the request of merchants on the Maryland side of the Friendship Heights commercial area has proposed renaming the Friendship Heights Metrorail station to "Friendship Heights - Chevy Chase; and

Whereas the Chevy Chase residential and commercial areas are not in the vicinity of the Friendship Heights Metrorail station; and

Whereas neither residents or businesses of the District of Columbia are requesting this change; and

Whereas the residents of the Friendship Heights neighborhood of the District of Columbia will suffer the impact from the outrageous amount of commercial development approved for the Maryland side of Friendship Heights; and

Whereas the Friendship Heights neighborhood would be better served by a traffic study of the impact of the commercial development on major arteries and residential streets in the area;

Now therefore, ANC 3E does not oppose changing the name of the Friendship Heights Metrorail station, but does oppose the expenditure of any public monies by the District of Columbia government for such a name change.
